the amityville horror: real life nightmare or real life hoax?

dear readers

i was inspired by the release of the remake of the Amityville Horror. i was inspired to tell the true story that inspired the movie. so here is the facts, did The Amityville Horror happen or it is a hoax...

the story begin in the sleepy town of Amityville, Long Island the house had a bad name because on nov 13, 1974 Ronald DeFeo gunned down his parents and siblings. at his trial, Defeo claimed that a voices in the house caused him to gunned down his family in their beds and pleaded insanity. the proecutors claimed that a more earthbound reason. he killed his paremts for their lucartive insurance policies. the jury didn't buy Defeo's story and founded him guilty on all counts and sentenced him to 150 yrs in prison!. in fact later Defeo claimed to have made up the the house tell him to do it to boast his insanity plea. the house stood empty until dec 18 ,1975. when George and Kathy Lutz with kathy's children from a previous marrriage. they buy the Defeo house on ocean avenue for $80,000. they got it cheap bvecuase of the reputation on the house. they moved in december as the trailer says they lasted 28 days. their dream house became a nightmare. they claimed that they felt an eerie feeling on the first day. The Lutzs went personality changes like being angry and have hair trigger temper. they also begin to heard strange noises like a "phantom marching band" . an attempted exocrism went very badly and the priest was told by a evil voice to "Get OUT" they then started hearding noises and on the third night George woked up and discoverd that the front door had torned off and hanging on its hinge. it had been wrenched from the INSIDE. supposely he awaked to discoverd his wife floating on the bed. an gallery of horros occured like clouds of flies in the upper floors of the house, sickness, the inside of the toliets turned black . a large staute moved byself. windows opened and closed by themselves . strange temperature like freezing cold and sweltering heat.their phone seervice was interupted repaatly and scarths appeared on Karen the younger daughter Melissa begin to talk to a devilish sprit pig named Jodie that told melissa to do bad things. the family begin to see Ghoslty apparitions of hooded figures and pigs and demons. several days before they finally snapped and moved out. they were together in the Sitting Room and they sawed red eyes staring at them out the windows and they discovered it was gone and only a pair of cloven footprints remained. the Lutz finally broked and lefted the house. supposly while they were leaving strange noises filled the air and green slime oozed down the walls. they lefted and never returned to the house agian.

Aftermath

the lutz contracted the Warrens a husband and wife duo of 'Demonists" to helped them and they went ot the house for a senace they theoried that Deleo had been possesed by demons. the grounds in which the house stood on was filled with unearthly spirits. the land was a dumping grounds for sick and dying members of the Shinnecock Indians. the lutz's with the author Jay Anson wroted a book of their expriences. the book was a runaway best seller and turned into a hit movie with James Brolin and Margo Kidder and was remaded into the version today in theater. the lutzs toured the countries and the story became a legend. however a crack appeared, Defeo's lawyer William Weber claimed in 1979 that the whole thing was a hoax that he and the lutz dreamed up over a couple bottles of wines. small problems appearened like the indian tribe I told you about weren't anywhere near the house according to historial records. on christmas morning he claimed to have ssee a pig's face looking at him while the moon is full but records shows the moon wasn't out at the time and various others. the most damning was the Lutz's had returned to held a garage sale later after 28 days and many others while others claimed that the lutz's didn't asked for money and its all went to the authors. it was a attempt to keep vandals from the house and din;t happen. intersing, a string of bad luck plagued people connected to the hosue. including Anson's next book 666 was a flop and he died before it was published. Ed Warren had a heart attack and claimed the house was responsible for it. the main skeptic of the story died while writing a tell-all book exposure it as a hoax. Donald Cromiaty the son of the new owners died an early death. his bedroom was Ronald Defeo's. and many more. intersing, the new owners claimed no weirdness has happen. bu the people of amityville hated the traffic and tourists around the hosue and are tried of it. the new owners sued the lutzs and the publsihers for causing them stress and vandals it had "blighted their lives" the suit was settled out of case for a undisclosed amount.

what had happen? had demons plagued the family? or was the whole thing an hoax? as you watch the remake or have already seen it. you now know the real story and like everything in the dispatches from the edge we may never know...

love and peace,

Alex Stallwitz
